For An Amazing Hike Visit Devils Lake State Park

Devil’s Lake is a 10,000 acre state park, that stands out high above the rest!  The lake is the center attraction at Devil’s Lake State Park, which has over 3 million visitors each year.  The lake was named Devil’s Lake because there’s no visible inlet or outlet.

While the park is most known for its gorgeous lake, its also a well sought out location for hiking enthusiasts.   The park boasts, an incredible 29 miles of trails, ranging from easy to challenging.  Many of the trails offer unforgettable views of the lake.

Devil’s Lake State Park in Baraboo, Wisconsin offers some of the best rock climbing in the Midwest. There are over 1600 routes listed in Swartling & Mayer’s Climbing Guide to Devil’s Lake. The park also hosts some of the best climbing guides, instructors & outfitters!

The park has two large sandy beaches, each with a bath house. These beaches are located on both the north & south shores of the lake. Devil’s Lake normally maintains a very comfortable swimming temperature from Mid-June to Late September.

For decades Devil’s Lake State Park has been a popular Wisconsin scuba diving destination. With a maximum depth of about 45 feet, clear water, a fish-filled rocky shoreline, and no motor boats, Devil’s Lake is an ideal dive location.

This park is truly gorgeous, offering unique views and some of the most interesting topography in the state. It also features part of the Ice Age Trail and the Ice Age National Scientific Reserve. It’s a truly special place you really want to make time to visit.

One of the reasons this is such a spectacular park is that there is so much to see and do within this one park. Visitors enjoy hiking, biking, climbing, camping, swimming, kayaking, canoeing, SCUBA diving, snowshoeing, cross-country skiing, fishing, ice fishing, and even hunting and trapping during their season.

The Nature Conservancy also designated the park as one of the Last Great Places.

The naturally formed sculpture that overlooks the lake is known as Devil’s Doorway and is a popular hiking and photo-taking destination within the park. From here, you’ll get sweeping views of the whole park and Baraboo Hills valley.

With it’s Ice Age history, Devil’s Lake State Park is so much more than a place to cool off in the summer or view colors in the fall. It’s a truly amazing, historic and significant spot that is just one of the many locations that make the Midwest so special.

Devil’s Lake State Park is located at S5975 Park Rd., Baraboo, WI 53913. Admission is $13 for a day pass or free with the State of Wisconsin annual vehicle admission sticker.

Havasu Falls in Arizona, is one of the most beautiful destinations on Earth, however very few will ever see it.  Of all of America’s waterfalls, Havasu Falls is one of the most difficult to reach.

AllTrails/Andraya Olander

Aside from the challenging hike, the popular waterfall is located on Havasupai tribal lands, and is one of the most admired waterfalls in the country!   A permit is required and must be obtained for visiting the Havasupai Reservation. Then it’s an eight mile hike from the hiker’s parking lot to Havasupai Village; and another two miles from the village to Havasu Falls.

AllTrails/Peter Major

If a 10 mile hike is not your thing, there is a much easier way to get to the falls. For a fee, you can bypass the hike and jump aboard a helicopter that ferries hikers in and out of the canyon.

The topography is rugged, and includes a 100 foot waterfall, that descends into a series of lagoon like pools, each of which is filled with gorgeous  blue-green water!

TripAdvisor/jperoni

The stunning blue-green color is a result of a high concentration of calcium carbonate in the water.

VoyageVoyage

This incredible destination attracts visitors from all over the world, and it’s such a coveted attraction that an entire year’s worth of the required permits often sells out within minutes.

Romantic Holiday Destinations

While Havasu Falls is the most popular, waterfall in the area, there are 3 other amazing waterfalls in the area as well!
